My original goal was to focus on the city's reaction to the failure of the proposed Rookwood Revitalization And the court battle that followed. City officials, however, were less than cooperative. Since my emails and calls were never returned, I decided to shift the focus to the effects on the community. I took a poll of 67 residents** of the city of Norwood. Here are the results:
88% of residents polled feel the track of land along the I71 corridor, razed by developers to expand Rookwood Pavilion is now an eyesore.
60% of residents agree with the supreme Ohio court ruling that stopped the use eminent domain for private development
18% of residents stated that the city should be able to use eminent domain to allow for private development if it benefits the city
22% were unsure
43% of residents polled would like to see the land developed into homes
38% would like to see the land developed into green space
19% for commercial development
1.5% for industrial use
54% of residents polled said that their opinion of Rookwood commons had changed due to the legal battle
46% were unsure or had no opinion.
83.5% of resident polled reported there opinion of the city had dropped after the court ruling.
**Poll was conducted in person via verbal questioning.
